Ashraf Islmail, who has been in various directorial roles throughout the Assassin's Creed franchise, is stepping down from his current position as creative director on Assassin's Creed Vahalla.

Citing "personal issues", Islmail's decision to remove himself from Vahalla's development can most likely be attributed to recent allegations that he had been cheating on his wife.

One woman, whose tweet puts hims on blast, alleges that she had unwittingly been in an adulterous relationship with Islmail. She also claims that he had deliberately deceived her and others into believing that he wasn't married, going as far as to insist that his wedding ring was simply "a ruse meant to satisfy conservative parents."

In response, Islmail tweeted that "the lives of my family and my own are shattered," and "I am deeply sorry to everyone hurt in this" before apparently deactivating his Twitter account.

Ubisoft later released an official statement addressing his departure: "Ashraf Ismail is stepping down from the project to take a leave of absence. The development team is committed to delivering a great game in Assassin's Creed Valhalla."

Islmail's is just the latest in a recent, explosive wave of #metoo allegations, with several public figures within the gaming industry now facing accusations of various forms of sexual misconduct.

Earlier this week, Dying Light 2 developer Techland parted ways with writer Chris Avellone after he was accused of being an "abusive, abrasive, conniving sexual predator."
