Destiny 2's new expansion set on the moon

Looks like some crafty Destiny 2 players have successfully data-mined an announcement for the game's upcoming expansion, which appears to be titled "Shadowkeep". Dun-dun.

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep announcement

According to an advert obtained from data included in the "Season of Opulence" update, this latest expansion for the space-based grindfest will have players returning to none other than The Moon. The description goes on to say that there are apparently some shadows infesting the place yada yada and you have to shoot them dead until they spill out loot.

While that sounds exhaustingly interesting and all, I think what is most notable about this is that Shadowkeep will be the first expansion to be released since Bungie's split with Activision. The fact that this is being produced by a newly-independent Bungie will likely position expectations a little higher than usual, since it was alleged that their former publisher's intrusive meddling is what caused the majority of fan's lingering disapproval for the game's direction.

While the jury is still out on whether or not Destiny 2 is still worth anybody's time, perhaps Shadowkeep will offer enough to bring its waining player base back to find out for themselves.
