Dying Light crossover event isn't quite Left 4 Dead 3, but it's certainly close

When the news broke that Dying Light was going to somehow be bringing Left 4 Dead into its parkour-centric, open world zombie sandbox, one could have easily assumed that, at best, it would be in the form of some cosmetic items, and maybe a player skin or two. While I was of course hoping for something more substantial, I've seen how these crossover events usually pan out, and it's typically not great. I don't think it was on anyone's mind that Techland - the folks behind Dying Light - would actually transform its game's mechanics to play like Left 4 Dead. However, that's more or less exactly what they did.

Probably the most obvious change to Dying Light's core gameplay is how zombies operate. For the duration of the event, Dying Light's zombies are significantly more feisty than normal. Rather than the usual "shambling corpse" routine that defines their daytime behavior, zombies are more aggressive, and come at you with the ferocity Left 4 Dead's infected hordes. Now, under normal circumstances, giving zombies such an advantage would stack the difficulty a little too heavily against the player. To remedy this, players are given better access to firearms. After all, it wouldn't be a proper Left 4 Dead crossover without the inclusion of some serious firepower.

Speaking of firepower, Techland clearly took a cue from its Left 4 Dead counterpart by making ammo more plentiful than ever before. In fact, ammo can be replenished simply by entering a safe zone, which seems very much on-brand.

If for no other reason to come back to Dying Light, it's to experience what the game would be like if it didn't treat guns and ammo like zombie-slaying unicorns.

That said, it should be noted that Dying Light isn't made any less difficult as a result. Even with the added benefit of expendable ammo, I still found myself dying, a lot. Then again, I'm not very good - but that's besides the point.

Additionally, gameplay changes aren't the only things that players have to look forward to. Partaking in community missions unlocks the golden frying pan, electric guitar, and golf club - just to to bring some added flare to the act of bashing zombies heads in.

If you haven't already, I would highly suggest giving this limited time crossover a chance. It's Left 4 Dead , but with parkour. With the exception of an actual sequel to Left 4 Dead 2, what more could you want?
