The Elder Scrolls 6 Title

Ever since Fallout 76 was determined to be an utter disappointment and absolute disaster, fans have decidedly turned toward the future in hopeful anticipation for what was to come next from Bethesda.

At E3 last year, the studio briefly acknowledged the existence of Elder Scrolls 6, but not before spending slightly more time unveiling their newest IP - Starfield. Many thought, myself included, that we would be getting some information on either of those games at some point this year. Well, we just did, and directly from Todd Howard himself no less. As it turns out, we're going to be waiting a while before we see Starfield, and even longer before we get Elder Scrolls 6.

Hopefully this will tide you over

This revelation came during a recent conversation with Mr. Howard on IGN "Unfiltered", where he candidly discussed Bethesda's priorities while clarifying that their focus is entirely on Starfield. Additionally, as far as Bethesda is concerned, a new entry in the Elder Scroll series can wait because Elder Scrolls Online is doing so well for them. It's easy to see how they could arrive at such a conclusion, seeing as how the microtransaction-filled MMO is likely generating the studio quite a bit of cash.

In regards to the extended wait between Elder Scrolls entries, Todd wants to assure fans that it's simply the result of the studio having fan's best interest at heart:

"The gap in between is going to be long, It already is. On one hand, I think it's good to miss things. I think that makes people come to it with really, really fresh eyes, and I think when they eventually—eventually—see the game and what we have in mind, they'll understand the gap more in terms of technology and what we want it to do."

Todd knows best, after all.

In any case, it looks like we're going to be waiting a long time before we get a proper sequel to 2008's Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, which at this point has been released so many times that its become a running joke. If you haven't already, go watch IGN's interview to get some of the other, perhaps more pleasant things that Bethesda is working on.
