Disintegration is a brand new IP from V1 Interactive, whose foray into the Sci-Fi FPS genre (not to mention debut title) is most notable due to the fact that it is being helmed by two key contributors to pivotal game franchises from the early 2000's - Halo and SOCOM: US Navy Seals. Both of these series were staples in their respective genres and helped shape the landscape for modern third-person and first-person shooters alike. It's because of Disintegration's inherent gravitas and unique, tactically-focused approach to the genre that I won't immediately write it off as being a deliberate attempt to siphon from the already-tapped vein of Sci-Fi shooters.

My immediate reaction to Disintegration was to liken it to Bungie's Destiny franchise, and for good reason - both series are cut from the same cloth. However, one notable difference that was briefly shown in the trailer and then expounded on in slightly more detail was Disintegration's use of squad-based tactics. This incorporation of elements from both Halo and SOCOM not only assuage my previous assumptions, but instead ends up reminding me more of Star Wars Republic Commando, which is absolutely a good thing.

Getting down to brass tacks, Disintegration will of course have a competitive multiplayer mode, and more surprisingly - a full single-player campaign. That said, I do think it's a missed opportunity not to include a co-op feature that allows for player-controlled squads - but I will save that verdict for when more details are revealed.

With a release date tentatively scheduled for sometime 2020, there is still much to learn about this one.
