During today's PC Gaming Show, former DayZ Standalone lead Dean Hall had the audacity to show his mug on camera to announce that him and his team at Rocketwerkz are working on a new free-to-play survival game called Icarus.
Rather than being an open-world experience like DayZ, Icarus will be session-based with an emphasis on co-op. Players work together on "contracts" to gather materials and such across alien planets.
According to Hall, Icarus is upping the ante in terms of survival by subjecting players to a fate that is somehow worse than death. "If you run out of oxygen, someone can come and revive you," Hall tells PC Gamer. "If you get attacked by this particular animal and damaged, someone can heal you. But if you run out of time, it's over."
That is to say, players can be left behind if they are unable to make it back to their dropship in time. If that happens, say goodbye to that character and their progression, because they are - for lack of a better phrase - lost in space.
More details can be found on the game's official website, and you can watch the trailer below.
