Leaked images of Project Resistance suggest a return to the Resident Evil: Outbreak series

Blessed be the data-miners, for they give freely and ask nothing in return. While just minutes ago I was absolutely clueless as to what Capcom's secret Project Resistance could be, in my heart of hearts I knew exactly what I wanted it to be. Thanks to some thumbnail images extracted from a Youtube link (of all things), I now have what I consider to be some considerable evidence to reinforce my hopes that Project Resistance might actually be a new Resident Evil: Outbreak.

For those unaware of the criminally under-appreciated spin-off, the first Resident Evil: Outbreak was a 4-player co-op survival-shooter released way back in 2003 during the earliest days of the PS2 online service. It was ambitious for the time, and despite its short-comings (like not supporting voice chat for some ungodly reason), the game provided a dynamic, collaborative, and uniquely terrifying experience unlike any that came before it.

The images in question, which were posted by one of gaming's most prominent insider moles, have so far been mostly likened to Valve's Left 4 Dead series, which could very well be a more accurate comparison. However, we won't know for sure until we see some gameplay footage next month.

As if the outbreak of screenshots strongly suggesting a new Resident Evil game steeped in co-op wasn't enough to convince me of where the series was headed, the folks over at PCGamesN have pointed out that ResidentEvilOutbreak.com - which has been dormant since the early 2000's - was updated this morning to a blank page that simply features the word "OK". A coincidence? You and I both know it isn't.
