Square Enix has announced that the upcoming Marvel's Avengers will be available at launch for both Xbox Series X and PS5, making it one of the few confirmed next-gen titles players can dive into on day one. Additionally, those who own the game for either PS4 or Xbox One will be able to upgrade to their next-gen counterparts free-of-charge.

To further sweeten the pot, users will be able to link up with one another across generations, meaning that someone on PS4 can play with someone on PS5. Same goes for Xbox One and Xbox Series X, respectively.

In terms of performance, Square Enix boasts that the next-gen versions of Marvel's Avengers will feature "extremely fast load times, boosted resolution and fidelity, improved texturing and armor destruction, ray tracing, and more."

The publisher specifically outlines how the the game will take advantage of the PS5's technology, stating that it will "fully [utilize] the ultra-high speed SSD", as well as the DualSense's haptic feedback.

First unveiled during E3 2019, Marvel's Avengers is being developed by Crystal Dynamics and features action-adventure beat-em-up gameplay with co-op support. The game was met with a fair amount of enthusiasm, despite many being put off by its uninspired interpretation of the character's likenesses. Since then, the developers have made some promising improvements.

Marvel's Avengers initial release is scheduled for September 4th, at which time it will available for PC, Stadia, Xbox One, and PS4.
