Minecraft Nether Update

It's finally happening. Minecraft's Nether region is getting its biggest update since, well, ever on June 23rd.

Most folks know the Nether as being a dimly-lit, cavernous deathtrap filled with lava. Whether it be lakes, rivers, or lavafalls, that sh** is everywhere. Additionally, pretty much everything there will kill you if given the chance. Yet, players continue to adventure to the Nether because it holds valuable resources and treasure that simply can't be found in the Overworld.

With the Nether update, new biomes, mobs, and blocks are being introduced to the realm of eternal pain and torment. So I ask, what could possibly go wrong? A lot, actually.

Minecraft Nether Crimson Forest

There's a new breed of pig-men, called Piglins, that have taken up residence in the Nether. They're described as "grumpy", but can be traded with if you happen to be carrying an item of value. In return, they might even give you something other than an arrow to the knee.

Continuing with the pig theme, the Nether update also adds a new breed of wildlife that can be found roaming freely around. They're called Hoglins, and they are essentially just 'roided out hogs that thirst for human blood. They're described as being "the snoutiest, tastiest mob in Minecraft", which leads me to believe that players can hunt them for food. Alternatively, there's a chance an ill-equipped player might end up being the one devoured.

As for new blocks, apparently the strongest material known to Minecraft has been in the Nether this whole time. Aptly named for where it once naturally occurred, Netherite has since been completely mined out by those pesky Piglins, meaning that players who are hoping for a full set of Netherite armor will have to salvage "Netherite scrap from ancient debris."

These are only a few of the additions coming with the Nether update, which at this point is just around the corner. More details can be found on the Minecraft website.
