Othercide Gameplay

As someone who has never played X-COM, it's difficult for me to confidently make that comparison when talking about developer Lightbulb Crew's upcoming tactical horror RPG, Othercide. However, more learn-ed minds have made such a comparison, so I'm just gonna go along with it. In any case, publisher Focus Home Entertainment announced today that Othercide will be launching on July 28th for PS4, Xbox One & Steam, with a Nintendo Switch release planned for later this summer.

What I do know is that Othercide looks interesting - particularly its use of a black and white pallet where color is only used to distinguish blood, which there seems to be an abundance of. In terms of combat, Othercide champions something called a Dynamic Timeline System that players will use to queue up attacks and abilities to achieve a sort of chaining effect.

Additionally, today's press release mentions that players will "fight, fail and rise again", which leads me to believe that dying is not only expected, but is actually built into the game's combat loop. I'm hoping that this means Othercide will play similar to Iron Danger, which is another game that effectively weaves death and time-travel into its gameplay.

Curious? Well take a look for yourself at this here announcement trailer:
