Although it feels like only yesterday that Need for Speed Heat was announced, the game is already receiving its final update as developer Criterion begins work on the next entry in the storied franchise.

In addition to some bug fixes, the update earns Need for Speed Heat the unexpected privilege of becoming the first ever EA title to support crossplay. Starting tomorrow, players on PS4, Xbox One, and PC will be able to play together online.

"At Criterion, we've always believed that games are better with friends. We don’t want your platform of choice to be a barrier for that experience." writes community manager Matt Webster in a blog post. "We're thrilled to let you all know that on June 9, Need for Speed Heat will be the first EA title to offer cross-play, meaning that players – regardless of their platform – can jump into Palm City together as one, united community."

The post also mentions that the next Need for Speed game is in the works, though it doesn't provide any specifics. Though if I had to guess, I'd imagine that it will involve decked out cars racing one another.
