If you're over the age of 25 and followed Pokémon in the late 90's, chances are you already have fond memories of Pokémon Snap and thus require no explanation of what it's about. If you aren't familiar with it, then first of all - I'm sorry, because it was low-key one of the best games to ever grace the N64.

For those uninitiated, Pokémon Snap was an on-rails, point and click adventure game that had players snapping photos of Pokémon whilst in their natural habitat. Against all odds, the game's unique brand of leisurely gameplay managed to capture our short attention spans for hours upon hours on end.

Now, against perhaps even greater odds, Pokémon Snap is getting a second coming on the Nintendo Switch. And no, it isn't just a remake or remaster of the original. It's a full-fledged sequel that's being developed by Bandai Namco in patnership with the Pokémon Company.

New Pokémon Snap, as it's being called, was announced this morning during a special Pokémon Presents! livestream, where the company showed off a brief trailer of the game. While it doesn't feature any actual gameplay, one gets the impression that this followup to the beloved classic is going to try and capture everything that made the original special, while making all the necessary updates to satisfy a modern audience.

According to the website, New Pokémon Snap will have players "explore deserts, jungles, and more as [they] photograph fan-favorite Pokémon and discover never-before-seen Pokémon expressions and behaviors."

There's no mention of a release date, but just the fact that we know that a new Pokémon Snap game is in the works is reason enough to feel slightly more optimistic about this dumpster fire of a year.
