Publisher 2K Games announced this morning the opening of a new studio, Cloud Chamber, that has been tasked with creating the next Bioshock game. Although the excitement over getting a new entry in the beloved franchise is palpable, development is in its earliest stages and the yet-to-be-named sequel/reboot is still several years away.

The aforementioned studio, Cloud Chamber, will be split into two locations - The San Fransisco Bay Area in Northern California, and Montréal, Québec. The latter of the two divisions will be the first wholly-owned 2K studio to set up shop in Canada, so that's kinda cool I guess.

"BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation." says David Ismailer, the President of 2K. "We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge."

It should be noted that the series creator, Kevin Levine, won't have any part in this particular iteration, and it's unclear if that also extends to future sequels as well. Kelly Gilmore, the studio head for Cloud Chamber, tells GamesRadar that "Ken and his team at Ghost Story Games are fully engaged in developing a new experience that will surely be another incredible game for all of us to enjoy."

Again, whatever this new Bioshock title ends up being, it's still several years away. That's basically a lifetime for gamers, so it's probably best just to forget about its existence so you can be pleasantly surprised when we finally get some tangible details later down the line.
