Spider-Man: Miles Morales was one of the first games to be announced during yesterday's PS5 reveal event, and it has since generated as much confusion as it has buzz. There's no denying that the game looks good, but what was uncertain coming away from its premiere trailer was whether this was an expansion to 2018's Spider-Man, or if it was a standalone title. Fortunately, developer Insomniac Games took to Twitter today to clarify that Miles Morales would indeed be getting his own game.
The key takeaway is the use of the word "standalone", which effectively clears things up - to an extent. Beyond that, Insomniac says that more will be revealed at a later date.
However, there continues to be some lingering confusion as to the scope of the game, as Insomniac's parent company Sony Interactive has itself misrepresented the project. A rundown of the situation from Polygon cites a recent Telegraph interview with Sony Interactive Europe's Simon Rutter, where the executive calls Spider-Man: Miles Morales "an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game," referencing 2018's Spider-Man.
Alternatively, Bloomberg reports that a source close to the project is claiming that it "will be smaller than a traditional console game but will be sold as a stand-alone product."
Either way, it's clear that whatever yesterday's reveal was trying to convey ended up getting a bit muddled, with those at the top not necessarily understanding the nature of what is undoubtedly going to be a highly-anticipated PS5 title.
