If someone was to question why it is often shameful for me to identify as a #gamer, they needn't look any further than the most current debacle being spurred on by the exact sort of fuckboys that give the "gamer" monicker its often negative connotation.
In case you are not familiar with the current discussion surrounding the FF7 remake - here's a quick breakdown: Square Enix is making some super minor tweaks to Tifa's character model in an effort to better represent her athletic build. That is to say, Tifa's breast size is being slightly reduced, so naturally the darkest recesses of the internet have come together in collective, fedora-capped protest.
It all started after Square Enix revealed footage of the remake at this year's E3, which depicted the character in her fully-realized 3D rendering. Overzealous fans were quick to point out the discrepancy between the character model's PSOne rendition and the one being shown in the new trailer. As is typical in cases of perceived injustice, it wasn't long before several threads appeared on highly-reputable forums such as reddit and 4chan that were devoted to the rebuke and/or dismissal of the afore-mentioned design changes.
Recently, these design changes were publicly addressed in an interview between Square Enix and Japanese publication Famitsu. According to a translation provided by Eurogamer, Tifa's breast-reduction was mandated by an "ethics department" within Square Enix's corporate hierarchy. The concern was that her movements would appear "unnatural" if her proportions remained as they were - which admittedly were a bit out of whack. As a result, the decision was made to tweak Tifa's outfit and cleavage.
This revelation comes amidst concerns by some that Sony is going to take away all the boobs with its crackdown on sexual content in their games, which of course will render them entirely unplayable.
