dire maul is coming early

The semantical debate of whether Deadmines is actually supposed to be abbreviated to "VC" rather than "DM", because these things matter, will hopefully be put to rest sooner rather than later, as Blizzard has decided to release the other "DM", or Dire Maul for the uninitiated, as soon as next week - well ahead of it's original schedule.

This news comes as part of a recent developer update, where game director Ion Hazzikostas outlined a few, well, developments that are in the works for the suprisingly-still-going-strong WoW Classic. Apparently, the reception for their so-old-its-new-again re-launch has been so good that the need for more content has forced Blizzard to forego its initial plans of including Dire Maul in its "phase 2" rollout in favor of a more hasty launch.

That is to say, PVP Honor and World bosses will still be coming to WoW Classic relatively soon - it's just that Dire Maul will be made available even sooner. The week of October 15th, to be exact-ish.

Old school players will likely remember Dire Maul from World of Warcraft's heyday as being one of the more elaborate dungeons that took a more freeform approach to an otherwise linear endeavor - allowing dungeon-goers to peruse Dire Maul without being confined to any particular order of operation. Aside from being a literal maze, those with the right amount of tact and who could navigate its imposing corridors could skip bosses and essentially do as much or as little of Dire Maul as they pleased.

While some might reflect on Dire Maul as being somewhat of a rite-of-passage that provided much-needed equipment and buffs necessary to stand a chance against raid bosses, I, a hater, have never held any such affections due to an apparent aptitude for getting myself and my party lost.

In any case, I've been able to play a fair amount of WoW Classic. While the nostalgia is definitely palpable, it's becoming increasingly difficult to maintain "the grind", especially when there are so many other games to play right now. I've also been chronicling my experience if you're curious to know my impressions.
