Gibbous on the dock

Classically-inspired point-and-click adventure game with a modern twist, Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure, is finally being summoned onto PC early next month after years of crowd-funded development. At long last, the Old Ones shall be praised.

Gibbous, a self-identifying "comedy cosmic horror" tale based on the works of HP Lovecraft, looks and feels reminiscent of a Disney animated classic that, through some manner of supernatural methods, has been infused with the dark energies of the universe. Ostensibly, the game also seems to be both mechanically and aesthetically heavily inspired by classic 90's point-and-click adventure titles such as LucasArts' (rip) The Secret of Monkey Island. This is, of course, not at all a bad thing.

The story centers around three individuals - an average joe librarian, a gumshoe detective with a hilariously on-the-nose name, and a particularly sassy talking cat that was accidentally given the gift (or curse) of sentience through the dark magics contained within the fabled necronomicon. Demented hilarity ensues as they search for a means to solve the world's most pressing puzzle - how to get that dang cat to shut up.

The release announcement was accompanied by an all-new story trailer that wastes little time delving into the abnormal happenings occurring in the beautifully rendered lovecraftian town of Darkham. Being set in a universe full of unspeakable terrors, Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure appears to strike a healthy balance between dark foreboding and cynically-inclined humor, all while never making the mistake of taking itself too seriously.

Gibbous - A Cthulu Adventure is scheduled to release on Steam and GOG on August 7th.
