Is it a real-time, squad-based strategy game, or is it a first-person shooter? Perhaps it's somewhere in the middle - taking the best parts from each genre and merging them together to make something fresh and unique. In any case, pretty soon we won't have to speculate, as developer V1 Interactive and publisher Private Division have announced an open beta for their upcoming game, Disintegration, beginning January 31st.

During this beta, players will have access to two of Disintegration's multiplayer modes: Control and Retrieval. The former may seem somewhat familiar to anyone who has played a competitive multiplayer game in the last decade, as it has teams fighting for - you guessed it - control over various hot zones scattered across each map. The ladder, on the other hand, appears to be taking a page straight out of the Overwatch manual. In Retrieval, one team must fight to escort some cargo to a pre-determined destination, while the opposing team tries to thwart them by any means necessary.

News surrounding Disintegration has been somewhat sparse since being announced during last year's Gamescom, but that hasn't done much to halt the mounting anticipation for its release. This is in no short part due to the fact that Disintegration is being helmed by Marcus Lehto, who just so happens to be a former creative lead for the Halo franchise. With that level of gravitas attached to a project, it's hard not to be excited to see what Disintegration will bring to the table.
