Bring out your dead

If it has never been made clear previously, I am a big, big fan of games that have zombies in them. Extra points if it features co-op mechanics that let me feel just a little bit more secure knowing I have a friend or two backing me up. While the nearly decade-long zombie fad has yet to grow stale for me, many others would feel differently. Fortunately for myself and other like-minded individuals, Ubisoft might not be done with it either.

According to a credible "industry insider" going by the name of Nibel, we will be treated to an announcement regarding a potential zombie-infused Rainbow Six spin-off sometime next week. In a tweet, Nibel states the the game-in-question will be titled "Rainbow Six Quarantine", which sounds an awful lot something one would imagine would contain some form of, I don't know, highly infectious outbreak maybe. Well, as far as relatively verifiable evidence goes, that's about all we know - sort of.

Some have begun to speculate that this unannounced spin-off will somehow be related to a limited-event Ubisoft created for Siege. The mode was called "Outbreak", and it had players teaming up as their favorite operators to fight through hordes of monsters in a Left 4 Dead-style campaign. Apparently the mode was a huge success, but Ubisoft has yet to revisit it since then, despite fans begging them to bring it back on a more consistent basis.

It would not surprise me if Ubisoft was planning on re-packaging Rainbow Six: Siege's Outbreak mode and selling it as a standalone game, but that would be absolutely OKAY with me if that meant the price of admission also included a frequency of content updates on par with its counterpart. After all, Rainbow Six: Siege is a thoroughly polished and objectively well-made game that I would play much more of if I wasn't so dag-on awful at competitive games that require any level of strategy. If this rumored spin-off is in fact real and anything similar to what is being speculated, then that's exactly the sort of invitation I've been waiting for to get in on the Rainbow Six goodness.
