Rockstar launches its own launcher, incentivizes jaded PC community with a free copy of GTA: San Andreas

Allow me to preface this with 45 seconds of uninterrupted groaning, because that's about where I'm at when it comes to publishers releasing dedicated launchers for their game libraries. As much as it pains me to say anything to validate EA as a public entity, their Origin platform at least makes a little bit of sense due to their immense portfolio of games, but when a publisher like Rockstar enters the fray with all 4 of their franchises, I really can't help by scratch my head.

The Rockstar Games Launcher will act as the central hub for all 8 of Rockstar's games, and is being billed as a convenient place to organize digital and disc-based titles. Additionally, it includes cloud save support as well as an assortment of other undisclosed features.

From a business perspective - I totally get it. I'd imagine some number cruncher within Rockstar's corporate hierarchy raised the question "why are we paying a commission to have our games sold on third party platforms when we could keep 100% of the profits selling on our own?", with the answer being quite obvious. However, and here's the real kicker - it's not good for the consumer, which is ultimately who companies like Rockstar are supposed to be servicing, right?

In any case, Rockstar is seemingly undeterred by the fact that most PC players do not want another proprietary launcher to contend with, and are even offering early-adopters a free copy of 2004's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for their inconvenience, albeit without a side of hot coffee to enjoy it with.
