Summer Games Done Quick celebrating a fund-raising achievement

Another Games Done Quick event has come and gone, which is always a bittersweet affair for those like myself whom tune into the bi-annual week-long marathon semi-religiously. Perhaps it's the atmosphere - which typically involves hundreds of pajama-clad patrons lounging around with not a care in the world - that makes the whole thing feel so far removed from time, responsibility, and the many demands of life. Whatever the reason for its unique place in my heart, any void that is left in the wake of its closure is promptly filled by the contentment felt knowing the event's immense contributions to the world community. This year is no exception, and the organizers of Games Done Quick are happy to report that this year's Summer event pulled in a whopping $3 million dollars in donations.

For those unaware, that is a pretty substantial haul for GDQ. In the past few years, the event has grown exponentially in viewership and donations. The previous event, Awesome Games Done Quick, pulled in around $2.4 million dollars, so it doesn't take a mathematician to see that this jump in contributions represents considerable growth for the organization.

While last night's finale means a wrap on Games Done Quick for 2019, the unseen benefits that it will provide for the underserved and underprivileged will be felt for months and years to come. The beneficiary of this past week's event, Doctors Without Borders, is an international humanitarian organization that provides vitally important healthcare and relief to war-torn or otherwise negatively-impacted global communities.
